Google Company History
Google history
Google is an American multinational technology company that was founded in September 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were Ph.D. students at Stanford University in California. Originally called “Backrub,” the search engine was renamed “Google” in 1997, a play on the word “googol,” which refers to the number 1 followed by 100 zeros.
Google quickly became the most popular search engine on the internet, and the company’s mission is “to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.” Over the years, Google has expanded into other areas, including online advertising, cloud computing, software, hardware, and more.
In 2004, Google went public with an initial public offering (IPO) that raised $1.67 billion and made many of its employees millionaires. Today, Google is one of the largest and most valuable companies in the world, with a market capitalization of over $1 trillion. Google is also known for its many popular products, including Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, Google Drive, YouTube, and the Android operating system.
